The OSU Upward Bound Math and Science Center is designed to:
* Help students recognize their potential to excel in math or science
* Strengthen math and science skills of participating students
* Encourage students to pursue college degrees in math or science
Upward Bound Math and Science History:
* Upward Bound was created by the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act. A year later, Upward Bound joined two other special programs for low-income students from disadvantaged backgrounds, Talent Search and Student Support Services, under authorization of Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. These three programs are referred to as "TRiO."
* The U. S. Department of Education created the Upward Bound Math and Science program in 1990 to meet the need for specific instruction in the fields of math and science.
OSU Upward Bound Math and Science History:
* The OSU Upward Bound Math and Science Center was established in September 2003 with a five-year grant from the U. S. Department of Education for $1.1 million.
* The OSU Upward Bound Math and Science Center receives additional funding from Oklahoma EPSCoR through a grant from the National Science Foundation EPSCoR Grant EPS-0132534.
* The UBMSC is located on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
We serve students enrolled the 9th through 12th grades in Cushing, Drumright, Frontier, Glencoe, Perkins, Tryon, Morrison and Stillwater high schools who are interested in careers in math or science.
At this time we are no longer accepting new students. Our funding from the U.S. Department of Education will cease on August 31, 2008. If you have any questions, our toll-free number is 866-748-7979. You can also contact our office by e-mail at eversd@okstate.edu.
